Common Table is a community on mission with God to

foster belonging, discover purpose, and ignite wonder in Jesus.

We believe God is here.

We believe the world is not an accident or ultimately meaningless. There is a God of purpose and intention who made all things, who is fundamentally good, and who is present and at work in the world.

We believe God made us for relationship.

God created humans in his image, which means he made us to be in relationship with him and with each other.  Because we are made in his image, each person has inherent dignity and worth.  We were created to know God, to know and love one another, and to care for the world we've been given.

We believe something has gone wrong.

The world—and each of us—is deeply broken. We hurt one another intentionally and unintentionally, we hide from God, and we pursue other things that ultimately leave us empty and unfulfilled. As Christians, we call this sin. Sin is not merely breaking the rules. It is also our tendency to turn away from God and others.

We believe God has not given up on his people.

God has not abandoned us in our brokenness.  The Bible tells the story of a God who pursues his people in order to rescue, empower, and restore them.

We believe that story centers on Jesus.

To accomplish this rescue mission, the Son of God took on human nature in the person of Jesus Christ to reveal what God is like and to restore creation.

Jesus announced God's kingdom, welcomed outsiders, loved his enemies, and gave himself for others. At the end of his life, he was crucified, and we believe that in his death, God dealt decisively with the sin and evil that tarnished his good creation. We believe Jesus physically rose from the dead, defeating death and opening the way to new life to those who trust in him.

We believe the Spirit empowers God’s People.

After Jesus’ resurrection, the Spirit of God came upon Jesus’ followers to empower them to accomplish his good work in the world.  He does this by transforming them into the image of Jesus and equipping them to embody God’s kingdom in the world.

We believe God is making all things new.

We are still waiting for the final part of the Bible’s story when Jesus Christ will return to restore all things to what they were meant to be.  When he returns, he will overcome death, injustice, and evil once and for all.

You are welcome to explore and inhabit this story with us—even if you're not sure you believe it.
